Venetian Exchange Rate

Rate Book

The merchants of the past, like their modern counterparts, required timely financial information to conduct their affairs profitably. Shown here is an issue of a Venetian exchange rate current that was published weekly from 1623 until about 1778. Exchange rates were also printed in portable and easily accessible ready reckoners. These volumes are valuable sources of financial information as well as a record of innovation in evolving business markets.
