Letterbook, Richard Starr Dana, 1867-1869

During the 1860s, Richard Starr Dana oversaw the Hong Kong operations of Russell & Co., a powerful American commission house engaged in the nineteenth-century China Trade. Dana’s letterbook includes both his business and family correspondence while in Hong Kong and Shanghai. It is a particularly valuable addition to Baker Library’s extensive collections documenting the China Trade, not only as a commercial record but also as a personal commentary on life in China.
