Identifying Organizations

Candid

Information about the missions, programs, and finances of more than 1.7 million nonprofit organizations as well as grant-making organizations.

Search for or create a list of nonprofits or grantmakers using detailed criteria such as location, industry or subject focus, and population served..

Yearbook of International Organizations

Detailed information on over 38,000 active international organizations from 300 countries and territories - including intergovernmental (IGOs) and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs).

Search Strategy:
Click on online access to view a search form that will allow you to filter for organizations using criteria such as subject, location, and classification.

Capital IQ

Profiles of public and private companies and nonprofit organizations.

Search Strategy:
Screen for companies and use the 'company type' field to screen for educational institutions, arts institutions, government institutions, labor unions, etc.

Add other relevant criteria, e.g. geography. 

Orbis

Profiles of international public and private companies and foundations. 

Search Strategy:
From the main page, select the 'Activities and Industry' link.  Then select 'entity type.' Included in this list are Foundation/Research Institute and Public Authority/State/Government.
