Henry Villard Business Papers: Stereographs and PhotographsThe Henry Villard Business Papers include 111 stereographs and photographs taken by F. Jay Haynes, the official photographer for the Northern Pacific Railway. Haynes' images were intended to promote the region and encourage further settlement. He recorded railroad construction and operations, towns, farms, mining villages, and Native American settlements along the lines. The images also depict the natural scenery of the land.
Henry Villard Photograph Album, 1883
This elaborate photograph album contains 35 black-and-white silver gelatin portrait prints of prominent German financiers who financially supported the construction of the Northern Pacific Railway. It was presented to Henry Villard by the German delegation attending the celebration commemorating the completion of the railroad in 1883. The album was a commemorative gift that celebrated the event and memorialized German foreign investment in American enterprise.
