Volume 1

Account book kept by a farmer and shoemaker in Tyringham, Massachusetts, between 1825 and 1830. The volume includes his accounts with various men and women. Some of the women seem to have made the shoes that he later sold.

Widow Anna Hale bought shoes, butter, and molasses from Northrup. She settled her accounts with ashes, corn, rolls, letting him corral his horse, and weaving linen. Widow Garfield was credited for spinning yarn and making shoes. Mrs. Sexton was credited for seven weeks of work. Mrs. Hall paid for sugar, meal, butter, and flour by washing.
