The collection encompasses the remarkably complete records of a cotton manufacturing firm of Lowell, Massachusetts, from its establishment in 1831 to its liquidation in 1926. At the onset, the mills employed predominantly young women from New England. Later, immigrant families became the mainstay of the workforce.
Wage and time accounting Payrolls: Volumes GA-1 to GM 282 (1833 to 1925) The collection contains some 400 volumes of payroll records, which show names, wage rates, room and function, and wages paid.
