Volume YE-1a

The Trotter family papers contain materials related to the children of William and Molly Trotter (Rebecca, Daniel, Ann, Margharita, Emmaline, Samson, and William). William died in 1815 and Nathan Trotter became the ward of his children, although Molly was still alive. The guardian accounts record payments for their board, education, and clothing.

The collection also contains several letters, from 1884 to 1886, from Sarah B. Stratton to Charles W. Trotter, who held the mortgage on her store. Stratton was thinking of selling out. "[T]imes are hard particularly when a widow has to do battle for her living," she wrote on August 30, 1884. And on September 3, 1885: "If men would deal as justly with me as I have dealt with men, I would not have to ask favors from you."
