Volume 2

The Graves family lived in Waltham, Massachusetts, between 1879 and 1914. Beginning on page 275 of volume two, the family accounts record the household expenses of Nellie Graves from 1882 to 1884. The accounts show payments, made mainly for coffee, peas, spices, graham, beans, molasses, soap, vegetables, meat, and fish.

On page 279 are personal expenses for Nellie Graves, including clothing, books, music, dressmaking, travel, schooling, and a speller.

The volume also includes a number of poems written in a new hand. Most of the poem are not attributed (they were possibly composed by the writer), but two are attributed--one to Elle Wheeler Wilcox and another to Emerson. Most deal with religious themes.
