APSCA has created a Competency Framework designed to ensure that auditors adequately identify and document evidence of social compliance performance across a wide array of social compliance elements. Auditors engaged by APSCA-member auditing firms can apply to be recognized as a Registered Auditor (RA) or an Associate Social Compliance Auditor (ASCA), and may pass a qualifying test to become a Certified Social Compliance Auditor (CSCA).

The ILO Governing Body has identified eight “fundamental” Conventions, covering subjects that are considered to be fundamental principles and rights at work: freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; the elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labour; the effective abolition of child labour; and the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 45001 – Occupational health and safety

Structured in a similar way to other ISO management systems, the approach will be familiar to users of standards such as ISO 14001 or ISO 9001. ISO 45001 builds on the success of earlier international standards in this area such as OHSAS 18001, the International Labour Organization’s ILO-OSH Guidelines, various national standards and the ILO’s international labour standards and conventions.
