Baker Library Special Collections is open to all members of the Harvard University community and to visiting researchers who are conducting academic research. Due to preservation concerns, the collections are not open for genealogical research.
Appointments are not necessary to use the collections, but we encourage researchers to contact Special Collections prior to visiting. Many collections are stored offsite and require 2 to 3 days advance notice for retrieval. In addition, there may be some restrictions on access that apply to certain collections.
Special Collections public services staff can introduce visiting and virtual researchers to our collections and provide assistance in effectively using the catalogs, databases, and finding aids to the collections. Research librarians and archivists are available to discuss your research project and possible resources within Special Collections upon request.
To make the most of your research visit, please review Preparing for Your Visit.
