The Heard (aka Hurd) Family Collection contains numerous letters to and from female members of the Heard family. Letters discuss news of family and friends, education, social activities, financial concerns, and descriptions of travel in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Of special interest are the papers related to the separation and divorce of Albert Farley Heard and Mary (Livingston) Heard in the 1880s. The correspondence of the Heard Family contains a large amount of materials and spans well over a century. An inventory of women's letters can be found with the unpublished finding aid, located in the Historical Collections reading room.
