Dr. David Dow was the proprietor of the Henniker Crutch Company. He died in 1952, leaving the company in the charge of his daughter (Margaret Dow) and two nephews. They ran the company until 1961, when it was sold.

Correspondence includes letters and memos to and from Margaret Dow. Excluding her brother, she was the largest stockholder in the company and actively involved with the management. Letters from her relate to advertising, sales, financial matters, and impending bankruptcy. She had also been closely involved in the company before her father died in 1952.
