The Plymouth Cordage Company was a rope manufacturer in Plymouth, Massachusetts, that subsequently acquired cordage companies in Canada and Louisiana. It was sold to Columbian Rope Company in 1966. The collection contains employment records of increasing numbers of women workers from the late 1870s. There are records (1907-1948) of Plymouth Cordage's industrial relations department, which conducted one of the oldest and most elaborate company welfare systems in the country. There are records regarding the medical department employing women nurses, a library employing a woman librarian, a band, athletic programs, housing assistance, and pension funds.
