Gustavus Tuckerman, Jr. was a Boston, Massachusetts, merchant who was involved in the China trade and India trade during the mid-19th century. From 1853 to 1859, Tuckerman travelled to Italy, India, and China, where he represented his firm's business interests and arranged the export of goods to Boston. The collection includes personal and family letters sent by Tuckerman's family, especially his wife Emily Goddard (Lamb) Tuckerman, informing him of family matters, news from home about friends and daily activities, the growth of his children, and by 1859, his family's anticipation of Tuckerman's return to Boston.
