The Dover Green Water Company was a small water company which supplied water to about thirty households in Dover, Massachusetts. Although its President, Richard W. Hale, Jr., was active in day-to-day operations, much of the water company's business was transacted by the associate lawyers and clerical staff of the prominent Boston law firm founded by Hale's father, Hale & Dorr.

Miss Fisher, secretary to Alexander M. Clark of Hale & Dorr, set up and kept the record book and the corporation's papers, and scheduled the dates for annual meetings. Another Hale & Dorr employee, Miss Betty E. Krulee, sent out bills and kept some financial records for the company. She also held title to some water company property as nominee for Mr. Hale's mother. Other Hale & Dorr clerical staff involved in administering this enterprise were Virginia Stiles and Miss Cynthia Field.
