Henry Lee Higginson was a financier and philanthropist in Boston, Massachusetts, with avid social and cultural involvements. His papers include correspondence, mostly written during the early twentieth century, with numerous women, relating to his philanthropic, political, and cultural interests, as well as to the women's finances and investments. An unpublished finding aid in the Historical Collections Department contains an inventory of Higginson's correspondence with women.

The collection includes letters throughout to and from various women regarding their investments and financial lives, as well as about Higginson's own property and investments.

There are also numerous letters from women in various professions and cultural endeavors, mainly written during the first part of the twentieth century. Higginson had contacts with reformers and philanthropists, such as Clara Barton, Maud B. Booth, Mary Parker Follett, Pauline Agassiz Shaw, Jeannette Meyers Thurber, Alice Lothrop, and Mary Morton Kehew. He also corresponded with a number of female musicians, including Helen Wright, Julie Peterson, Nellie Melba, Helen Wheeler, Julia W. Cameron, Estrella Belifonte, Ruth L. Deyo, Mary Munchoff, and Stella Newmark.
