Mss 442 1789-1791 W922 Volume 1 |
This one-volume collection documents the life of an early New England textile factory in Worcester, Massachusetts, that existed between 1789 and 1791. The mill contained looms, a spinning jenny, and spinning wheels. Although it is not entirely clear from the records, there seems to have been a gender-based division of labor in which the men served as weavers, pickers, and carders, and the women as spinners. The volume records the wages of the employees and the cost of boarding them in the town.
