The Mixter-Knight Collection includes the records of Bush & Delano, a general store in Hardwick, Massachusetts, that produced and sold palm-leaf hats during the first half of the nineteenth century. The store distributed palm-leaf to women on local farms, who produced the hats for store credit. Volume 1 records bills paid, including payments to numerous women for palm-leaf hat production. Women were paid for their work in more leaf, cash, and goods from the store.
