Historical Note:

During medieval times in Europe, a ruler could bestow land to men of noble birth who served him well. One such estate, possibly belonging to "good knight" Schorna, existed in the seventeenth and eighteenth century in Bohemia [now Czechoslovakia]. The farm boasted cattle, pigs, chickens, ducks, and geese as well as a grain mill and saw mill.

Scope and Content:

Collection consists of three (3) accounts written in German for an unidentified Bohemian nobleman. Accounts reveal transactions for a variety of personal, agricultural, and household items. Included are grain, flour, inheritance fee, brewery, dairy, salt, fish, church, wages, locksmith, building materials, blacksmith, domestic work, and malt. Description as follows:

Folder 1 - "Extracta der Rechnungen des Ritteguths Schorna von January 1 to December 1684....." In German. First five pages indicate receipts and expenses. Pages 6 -10 present produce received and expended. Extract on bottom of page 10 is dated from Walpurgis 1684 to Walpurgis 1865. Pages 11-12 contain inventory of cattle, swine, fowl.
