Erving was a Boston shipowner engaged in foreign trade. He dealt in deerskins, reels of yarn, printing paper, writing paper, muskets, powder, small arms, linen, rice, raisins, rum, salt, cordage, molasses and sugar.
Scope and Content:
The collection consists of a journal describing accounts of eight voyages to Amsterdam on Erving's brigantine Yucatan and five voyages to London on his ship John Gally. Also included are accounts of voyages to the West Indies as well as voyages of many other ships of which Erving was part owner.
