Scope and Content:
The collection consists of an account book for Roger Cone from 1825 through 1869. The volume contains an alphabetical index. The majority of accounts concern Cone's labor, possibly as a blacksmith. However, later pages list a wider variety of transactions. Accounts include Owen & Hurlbut, Anson B. Graham, Merrill & Brown, Lyman Whiting, Elizur Deming, Chancy Tuttle, Alden Chaplin, William Cone, Dennis Northrup, Abner Claflin, John Northrup, Alinza Clark, Frederick Cone, Lyman Brown, Thomas Stedman, Roswell Bentley, William Tomlelson.
The volume includes an inventory, dated June 1858, listing amounts of farm animals, household items, farming implements, blacksmith tools, value of house, barn, shop and out buildings and "notes of hand". There are pencil notations in the hand of a child [possibly by Sarah Cone] across the bottom of some of the pages; these were made at a later date.
