Photographic Services
Black-and-White Prints (no color prints available)
Black and white photographic prints may be obtained for most library materials. If a negative for the requested image is not on file, a copy negative must be created to fill the order. The patron assumes the cost for creating each negative and print. The charge for producing negatives and prints may vary depending on the size and condition of the original material. All negatives produced are retained by the Historical Collections Department of Baker Library.
Color Transparencies
Color transparencies are preferred for use in color printing. Requests for color transparencies are subject to the approval of the Director of Historical Collections.
Transparencies are available for 3-month rentals, and must be returned after use.
Turnaround Time
Please allow four to six weeks following receipt of payment for the processing of photographic orders. For large orders (10 or more prints), additional time will be required. There is an additional 50% charge for rush service if the order is needed within 10 working days. The availability of rush services must be confirmed prior to the placement of an order.
Postage and Handling
Standard shipping fees (Domestic and Foreign) apply to all orders, but patrons may supply a FedEx account number for direct billing.
All orders are subject to a service charge.
Payment
All orders must be prepaid; however, due to variables in determining reproduction fees, patrons are requested to send payment only after being informed of the total charge by the Historical Collections reference staff. Acceptable forms of payment are cash (for onsite orders); check (payable to Harvard University); interdepartmental charge; and credit card (Amex, Visa, and MasterCard).
Copyright and Publication Permission
Any use of photographs for publication, exhibition, or any purpose beyond research use requires written permission from the Historical Collections Department. A use fee will be charged. Permission to publish does not constitute a copyright clearance. In most cases Baker Library owns the physical item only and does not assume any responsibility for the copyright. It is the responsibility of the user to secure permission from the appropriate copyright holder.
