Historical Collections
Copy Services
Given the fragile nature and rarity of the collections, researchers are encouraged to transcribe text to the fullest extent possible.
All duplication requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Baker Library Historical Collections reserves the right to refuse to duplicate materials we deem too brittle, fragile, or tightly bound for safe duplication.
There is a 50-page copy limit (total, not per visit) for each large manuscript or archival collection. We will not provide or allow copies of entire collections or significant portions. Copy limits for copyrighted print materials follow fair use guidelines: one chapter or less than 20% of a publication.
All copying will be performed by a member of the Historical Collections Department. Copy orders are usually processed within 10 days for mailing; within 2 days for pick-up; and within 24 hours for HBS. Larger orders may require additional time. Copies cost $0.25 each.
A $5.00 processing fee will be assessed for all orders delivered by domestic, first class, or foreign airmail.
There are fees for copies ($0.25 each) and printing from internet resources ($0.25 each, $0.15 each for self service).
For more information about limited use of digital cameras, please contact Baker Library Historical Collections at histcollref@hbs.edu.
Some materials that cannot be copied may be eligible for self service digital photography. Some materials that can be copied are not eligible for self service digital photography.
A signed request form is required for all duplication. All forms are available in the Reading Room.
All materials to be duplicated must be noted on forms and marked with acid free strips available at the Reference Desk. Keep material in its original location in the containers.
Staff may recommend or require professional photographic reproduction as an alternative to copying or self service digital photography.
Any duplication of any material is made solely for research purposes only and for the convenience in examining the content. Duplicates can not be further reproduced, published, posted on the internet, or transferred to any other person or institution.
Baker Library Historical Collections makes no representation that it is the owner of the copyright or literary property rights in any unpublished manuscript, and that the permission to publish must be obtained from the owner of the copyright (owner, transferees, heirs, legatees or literary executors).
