Historical Collections
Planning a Visit
- Contact the Historical Collections reference staff in advance to make arrangements for your research visit. Please be prepared to provide details about your research project, the collections you are interested in, and the dates that you would like to visit. Many collections materials are stored off-site and will be recalled as part of the appointment process.
- We can retrieve a maximum of 10 volumes or containers per day per researcher from off-site storage. No more than 5 volumes or boxes will be brought to the reading room at one time.
- All duplication requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Baker Library Historical Collections reserves the right to deny duplication of materials we deem to brittle, fragile or tightly bound for safe duplication. Other restrictions may apply, including limits on the amount of materials that can be duplicated.
- Visitors must present identification with a recent photograph and a current address when they arrive.
- Only loose notepaper, pencils, and/or laptop computers are permitted in the Reading Room. No spiral or bound notebooks will be allowed into the Reading Room. Loose research notes will be strictly limited and will be examined before leaving.
- The de Gaspé Beaubien Reading Room is located on the first floor of Baker Library. Parking on campus is limited; when available, a permit for the Harvard Business School lot can be purchased at the guard booth.
