Integrated Container Service (ICS) was incorporated in Pennsylvania in December 1962. The company operated an international container pool through which it leased cargo containers and related equipment. The ICS containers were used in several modes of transportation, including on board ships, in over-the-road semi-trailers, or as railroad freight cars.
ICS earned only $4,861 on revenues of $65,000 in its first full year of operation. Four years later, however, it earned $901,000 on sales of $3.1 million. By 1969 the international container pool that ICS operated had 175 carriers and shippers.
ICS went public in May 1968 with an offering of 200,000 shares of common stock. The offering was managed by Lehman Brothers.
