Research Services for the R.G. Dun & Co. Collection
The credit report volumes are arranged geographically by state or territory. Each state or territory is then subdivided alphabetically by county and/or city. Most include alphabetical name indices that need to be consulted first, as they direct the user to the volume and page where the credit report is recorded. The volumes for smaller states or territories sometimes contain multiple counties within a single volume.
Upon written request and for projects that generally qualify for in person access to materials, Baker Library Historical Collections reference staff will conduct limited searches for provided business or individual names in the R.G. Dun & Co. Credit Report indexes. The indexes do not indicate dates of entries. We do not search the entry volumes.
There is an hourly fee for this service, and a maximum search time of two hours. Patrons are billed for search time whether or not designated names are located in the appropriate indexes. These requests are usually handled within four weeks upon receipt of the request and acknowledgment of the fees.
After receiving payment and a signed copy of the application, reference staff will provide the results from the index volumes - the Dun Credit Report entry volumes and page numbers for any names found.
Reference staff cannot provide transcription or search services for the R.G. Dun & Co. Credit Report entry volumes. Due to their fragile condition, the Dun Credit Report Volumes cannot be photocopied and, due to donor and other restrictions, the credit report volumes do not qualify for self service digital camera use.
