These resources have been selected as excellent starting points for researching the major league tables and rankings from the financial press. For further research assistance, please contact Baker Library. This guide was prepared by Harvard Business School librarians for the HBS community.

Investment Banks/Capital Markets

Institutional Investor.com
2003-present
Click on "Publications" link in the navigation bar, then select "Institutional Investor" and in the screen that appears click on "Research". This provides access online to all of the rankings that Institutional Investor magazine provides, such as top equity analysts, asset managers, hedge funds, etc. HU PIN required for remote access.

To access or create rankings of managers and underwriters:

Debt & Equity Search
Wall Street Journal, published weekly
List of deals greater than $50 million, completed in the past twelve months. Arranged by geography and by industry sector. DealLogic, Inc. provides data.

International Financing Review
IFR Publishers Ltd., published weekly
In print in Baker Library
Top underwriters in the global bond, loan, and high yield debt market. IFR Magazine online has league tables by security type as well as completed deals tables. Accessible with subscription or with free trial registration.

The Investment Dealers' Digest
IDD, published bi-monthly
Full text in Business Source Complete and ABI/ProQuest, also in print in Baker Library
January issue has the annual tables listed by type of security (IPO, debt, equity) and by U.S. and international offerings. Quarterly tables are listed in most issues. Article text without rankings available in Factiva and ABI/ProQuest. Text with rankings available in the print issues in Baker Library.

Mergerstat Review

Provides statistical information, rankings and extensive listing of M&A transactions for the year.

Thomson ONE Banker
Create customized ranked lists of deals and advisors for new issues, mergers and acquisitions, buyouts, and other business transactions in the global market. For league tables click on "Deals Analysis" from the left navigation bar and follow the prompts.

SNL Financial Institutions Deal Book
SNL Financial, published annually

Provides rankings, statistics and league tables on deals and capital offerings for the year.

TableBase
(All Harvard users)
Pulls tables of data from a wide variety of trade, industry and government publications.

Example: To get a published table of Goldman Sachs' public offerings:

Type search terms in the Words and Phrases box (e.g., "public offering" and "goldman sachs").
Choose date range.
Use the Concept Term menu to narrow search (e.g., "mergers & acquisitions").
Select Financial Services from the Industry menu.
