Question: Where do I find comparative financial ratios of public companies in an industry?
Answer:
  • In Capital IQ:
    • For broad industry sectors (energy, materials, consumer discretionary, consumer stables, heathcare, financia, information technology, telecommunications, utilities): mouse over Market Analysis and select Industries.
    • For more specific industries:
      1. Mouse over Screening and Analytics and select Screening and Companies.
      2. Type in the industry in the search box or select the industry by browsing Industry Classifications.
      3. Limit to public companies by clicking on Company Type, selecting Public Companies and add criteria.
      4. Place any other additional screens you wish
      5. View Results.
      6. Click on Add Display Columns to include the desired ratios or data points
      7. After viewing the results again, select Excel under reporting items.

  • In Thomson ONE Banker:
    1. Click on Screening and Targeting from the left menu.
    2. Select an industry using one of the options.
    3. Add other screening criteria as desired.
    4. Click on Report Writer to customize the display.
  • In Standard & Poor's Net Advantage click on Industries.
  • In Value Line click on the desired edition on the left menu (Standard for large cap, Plus for all companies) and then on icon next to Look up Industry.
