| Question: | How do I find company histories? |
| Answer: | International Directory of Company Histories (Ref. HG 4009 .I56) has essays on over 4,550 of the world's most important public, private, and nonprofit companies. Use the cumulative index in the latest volume for references to original and updated entries. A limited online version is available.
Hoover's also provides good histories of companies. Includes active companies and some companies no longer in existence or that have been acquired.
Mergent Industrial Manual (Ref HG4961 .M49) is useful for historical financial statements, histories, detailed business descriptions, subsidiaries, executives, stock information, and debt. Use the Complete Corporate Index (HG4961 .M45) to find information in all Mergent Manuals. Dates back to 1909, use the Baker Online Catalog for title changes and location information. The manuals are also available online, but in a format with few advantages over the print.
Use the Hollis Catalog to identify books in Harvard's collections on business history, specific companies, and resources in Baker Library's Historical Collections.
